Multi-Fractals

Multi-fractals are fractals built from other fractals. It is an exciting new way to easily create new fractals.

Create multi-fractals by combining 2 or more fractals in 5 different ways:

  1. Morphing - Mac OS Only
  2. Splicing
  3. Keyframe Deltas - Mac OS Only
  4. Layerz
  5. Sub-flame variation types

Morphing - FA Exclusive

Cross breed 2 parent fractals to make many other possible fractals. Properties are treated as a bundle.

Tool to use: Cross Breeder Editor.

How To

  1. Select 2 keyframes and click the CrossBreeder button.
  2. Drag slider to get different fractals.
  3. Optionally, click the Change Layerz Shuffle button to try different shuffle combinations.
  4. Use output fractal's Context menu: Save Fractal.

Splicing - FA Exclusive

Splice 2 or more fractals together to create exciting new fractals. Exploits the huge power of Variation Group Chains.

Tool to use: Lua Scripts.

How To

  1. Pick a fractal and open the Variants Editor using it as the original fractal.
  2. Pick one of the Lua Tweak scripts from the Splicing category.
  3. Click Roll Dice button.
  4. Select an output fractal, then use the Context Menu: Open 1 Combined Preview for Selected.

Keyframe Deltas - FA Exclusive

Same idea as morphing, but each property is handled independently. Properties are unbundled.

Tool to use: Super Variants Editor.

How To

  1. Click on 2 fractal thumbnails and click the Super-Variants button.
  2. This opens the Super Variants window with a bunch of random fractals.
  3. Optional, Click the Configure Variants button and manipulate the Keyframe Delta's properties.
  4. Select an output fractal, then use the Context Menu: Open 1 Combined Preview for Selected.

Configure Variants

Here, that button was clicked and we can see that 18 property animations have been automatically created for us.

Layerz

Combine layers of basic fractals to create composite fractal by having each layer share the same histogram.

Drag & drop (or Copy/Paste) fractals in preview window to add layers to a fractal.

Tools to Use: Quick Look, Grid Thumbnails, & Preview Window

Easy Way How To

  1. Select more than one thumbnail.
  2. Hit Spacebar to get Quicklook view. This shows a layered fractal, with as many layers as the thumbnails you selected.
  3. If you like the Quicklook preview fractal:
  4. Use the Context Menu: Create Layered Fractal from Selected.

Hard Way How To

  1. Open a fractal's Preview Window.
  2. Click the Preview Windows L button to open the Layerz popover.
  3. Find another fractal and drag and drop it on the **Drag to Append Here" button.
  4. Adjust the layer weights.

This way is hard because you have no way to preview whether 2 fractals look good when layered together.

Sub-flame variations

subflame and subflameFinal variation types for normal and final transforms respectively.

These variations invoke another basic fractal to create the variation shape.

Warning: Sub-flames may not be supported on all GPU devices and driver updates in both the past and future may break sub-flame GPU rendering. CPU rendering should be unaffected.

Tools to Use: Lua Scripts & Transform Editor

Easy Way How To

  1. Use either addSubflameFinal or addSublflameXform Lua Tweak script.
  2. Use it with Random fractal creation or variants.
