Garbage Fractal Filter

The random fractal generator can render a lot of unusable fractals.

The Garbage Filter will throw away garbage fractals based on these settings:

The fractal filter throws out garbage fractals based on these 3 items:

Background Percentage
If the image background is the predominant feature, trash it.
Percent Fused Render Statistic
If too many of the fractal points are unfused, trash it.
Percent Retained Render Statistic
If too many of the fractal points are “outside” the image area, trash it.

The Filter Settings:

Quality
Render Quality
Filter Garbage Fractals
Enable / Disable the filter.
Min Fused Cutoff
Minimum Cutoff for the percent fused render statistic.
Tracks the percent of points that are fused at the end of the render.
Min Retained Cutoff
Minimum Cutoff for the percent retained render statistic.
Tracks the percent of points that are retained by the histogram at the end of the render

Pre / Post Variation Group

These settings determine whether a Pre and/or Post Variation Group are added to each transform.

If set to zero, no group will be added. If set to 100, a group will be added always.

Add Pre Group
Percent chance that a Pre Group will be added to the Transform.
Add Post Group
Percent chance that a Post Group will be added to the Transform.

Number of Random Tranforms

These settings determine how many normal transforms are added to each random fractal.

Minimum
Minimum
Maximum
Maximum
Linked
Number of additional Linked Transforms to add.
Final Xform
Enable / disable adding a Final Transform.

Linked Transforms are additional transforms that are added where Xaos weight values are configured so that these transforms are “linked” to another transform.

Final transforms have a very strong influence on the fractal shape.

Number of Variations Per Tranform

These settings determine how many variation instances are added to each transform.

Miscellaneous Settings

These are other settings that don’t fall under other categories.

You can override the recommend settings, but for casual users the recommended settings are best

Fractal Symmetry
The fractal symmetry value to apply.
Random Batch Size
The number of usable random fractals to create per batch. The generator will keep generating random fractals until this threshold is reached.
Randomize Xaos
Enable / disable randomizing Xaos weights. Recommendation: Disable this.
Fractal Type Selector
Choose either 2D or 3D fractals. Recommendation: 2D
Randomize 3D Camera
Enable / disable randomizing 3D camera values for 3D fractals. Recommendation: Disable this.
Suggest that you use the Variants Editor to try different camera settings instead.
Flatten 3D Variations
Enable / disable “flattening” of 2D variation instances when used in 3D fractals. Without this, you may get unwanted “Z-hair” artifacts.
Recommendation: Enable.
3D Camera Settings
Go to the 3D Camera Settings view.

Aspect Ratio

These settings determine the aspect ratio of the generated fractals.

Possible choices:

Custom aspect ratios are entered in the text field.

Wider / Taller Selector
Choose either a wide or tall aspect ratio.

So a 3x4 (wide) can be changed to an effective 4x3 (tall) aspect ratio.
